Weather statistics for February in Queenstown.

February was rather disappointing for the last month of summer with the whole summer in general nothing like last year.   Although rainfall was below average, so too was the temperature and sunshine.

Rainfall totalled 43.1 mm with the average for February being 56.1.  There were 12 days of rain with the heaviest daily fall being 11.0 mm on the 20th.

Average temperature for the month was 15.5 degrees with the average for February being 15.9 degrees.   This was the first month our temperature has been below normal since May of last year.   Highest daily maximum was 29.1 degrees on the 5th with the lowest being 3.4 degrees on the 14th.  Also on the 14th a frost of minus 1.4 degrees was recorded with frosts very unusual in February.

Sunshine was down by a massive 15 percent last month, 170.1 hours only being recorded with the average being 201.5 hours. There were 4 consecutive days from the 20th to the 23rd when no sun was recorded at all; again unheard of in a summer month.

A couple of dustings of snow were observed on the Remarkables during the mornth.

NEW: David's forecast is once again published simultaneously at the old southernlights site - it's now easier to read there and has scope for improvements.
